Tongue-in-cheek.
After spending a few years in Aspen, I've come to realize that the more money you have, the more you embrace the absurd. I would often chuckle while scrolling through the local Instagram account, “Microwaves of Aspen,” which featured candid shots of skiers clad in the puffiest metallic jackets and bodysuits.
The valley has a certain tongue-in-cheek charm, which became evident when the BMAI team and I delved into the Aspen Historic Society archives and uncovered some of the most ludicrous moments captured there. This wasn’t our original goal. When our client shared her fondness for Aspen's beloved Hotel Jerome, we saw an opportunity to pay homage to the historic 1888 miner's cabin we were working on.
The original 250-square-foot cabin was steeped in history, having been owned by some of the town’s most prominent families. In 2014, Bryan May Architecture had the privilege of adding a modern Scandinavian three-story extension, transforming the cabin into the stunning home it is today.
More recently, the owners reached out to the BMAI interiors team with a request to fully furnish the house by Thanksgiving. This was in August! Over the next few months, we raced against the clock, collaborating closely with our client to create a captivating dining experience and a serene, comfortable setting for future renters. Needless to say... we met the deadline.
